Family Law
Our attorneys will work with you to identify your needs and achieve your goals. We are experienced in both collaborative divorce techniques and well as trial for cases involving a high level of conflict.
Divorce
Some people can handle a dissolution of marriage in a business like manner, and for others it is an extremely emotional process. We try to keep your costs down by identifying issues on which you and your spouse or partner agree, and then work with you to achieve a fair result on the remaining issues. We will promptly go to trial if that seems the most expedient way to complete your case.
Property division:
California law provides for the equal division of community property. While this sounds simple, the issues can become quite complex, especially if assets are hidden or difficult to value, or when separate and community property assets have been combined and the respective values need to be untangled. The division of property is sometimes contentious, especially when one of the parties have an unrealistic idea regarding the value of the assets. The value of a family business, pensions plans and stock options are often misunderstood.
Custody and visitation:
Maintaining a wholesome relation with their children is, for most people, one of the most emotional issues. The majority of parents can work out a satisfactory time-sharing agreement themselves or with the help of a family court mediator. When mediation doesn’t work out, our attorneys will be there to support you throughout the process. We are familiar with the use of mental health and drug and alcohol experts, and the ways in which they can either help or hurt your case. Some cases will only resolve by trail, and we will go the distance to help yoiu achieve the best result for your children’s benefit.
Child support:
Our experience regarding child support issues is second to non, since our attorneys spent years working as appointed counsel in child support contempt cases. We can help review any existing child support orders and advise you regarding factors that can either raise or lower child support, so you will know the amount being set by the court is accurate and your children are receiving the correct amount.
Spousal support:
Many factors are considered by the court in setting spousal support. Our attorneys have trial experience in cases where income was attributed to a non-working spouse. We will work with you and advocate for you so that spousal support, if appropriate, is set at a fair amount.
Domestic Violence:
Besides serving to protect a victim from further harm, restraining orders have very serious consequences affecting personal rights and custody and visitation orders. Our attorneys have years of experiences representing both those seeking protection as well as individuals defending against such orders, with great success handling either side. We are sensitive to these important issues and can provide you with the legal help you need.
